Creating music using a digital audio workstation, or DAW for short, revolutionised how we make music in the digital age. From the invention of MIDI, to the creation of Virtual Studio Technology, the fundamentals of a DAW have remained almost unchanged. But what is a DAW? It’s simply an electronic device or application software used for recording, editing and producing audio files.

In this regard, VST Player comes as a VST host that lets you play MIDI files while using various plugins. Visual design and file support Once the application is installed, you can go ahead and run. Cantabile is the best way we know to play VST instrument and effect plugins in real-time. With incredible MIDI routing capabilities, whether you're practicing in your basement or rockin' the stage we're sure you're going to love Cantabile.

Arp omni-2 free vst. As the requirements of music producers are vast and often extremely specific, it’s not possible to include every music production tool within one package. The beauty of MIDI VST technology is the ability to spec a DAW with exactly the right tools for the job.

Let’s consider Logic Pro X. It’s one of the most popular DAWs on the market. This is because it makes light work of almost any music production task. However, if we wanted to create a particular warmth or sound with vocal compression, we wouldn’t necessarily reach straight for Logic’s stock compressor. Instead, we might choose a compressor normally utilized specifically for that task. In this specific situation, a Fairchild 670 compressor would be a fantastic choice. This is because of its exceptional results when used on vocals.

Life, Easier

Music production and songwriting in general should be a fun process. Often the “magic” which makes a song successful happens in a moment. This makes it super-important to be able to capture these moments with ease. Tools which offer live playability and ease of further production will help ensure a fast workflow, and this is key to turning ideas into great music.

DAWs don’t necessarily offer in-depth song writing functionality, they are more geared towards production and mixing. Ableton Live’s strengths, for example, are its ability to time-warp samples with ease, plus offer DJs and live electronic artists a flexible platform. On the contrary, you might find Country artists opting for Pro Tools. This is because Pro Tools’ fundamentals lie in recording, tracking and mixing live instruments.

Captain Plugins was designed to aid music composition to a level in which no DAW, or MIDI VST plugin has achieved. Captain Plugins allows you to use your favourite DAW as the foundation of your studio set up. You can then add purpose-built plugins, such as Captain Chords, to create MIDI chord progressions, melodies, basslines and beats. These musical creations can then be dragged and dropped directly within your DAW for further production.

This gives you the best of both worlds, a DAW you are comfortable working within – which includes the regular tools required for production – and the specific power of MIDI VST plugins designed to aid music composition.

Chordz is a VST plugin that allows you to trigger full chords by playing single notes. Each trigger note is associated with a separate chord. Each chord may consist of any number of notes. Play complicated chord progressions with one finger, with a MIDI keyboard or a drum-pad, or trigger chords from single notes added in your DAW's piano roll.

A chord can be set up to include individual notes spread out over several octaves (two octaves both below and above the octave of the trigger note). This means you can easily create chord inversions and other custom chord voicings, for example double certain notes, both above and below the root note. The chord suggestion feature suggests diatonic chords based on the selected scale and root note.

When 'easy mode' is enabled, you can play the chords in any scale using only the white keys, with 'C' always being the I chord. The black keys can then be used for chord variations (for example 'C#' to trigger a major seventh or ninth chord, while 'C' triggers a regular major chord).

The keyboard can be divided into three zones, one for playing chords, the other two (one below, and one above, the chord trigger zone) for playing single notes. Each zone can be independently transposed up or down by any number of octaves. This allows you to play chords with your left hand, while your right hand plays the melody.

Optionally, single notes outside the chord trigger zone can be forced to stay within the selected scale. When easy mode is enabled, it will follow the chord trigger setup (for example, if scale is set to F minor and a C note will produce a F minor chord, a C note outside the chord trigger zone will play a F note). This will ensure that you will always stay in key, and never hit a wrong note.

The plugin supports optional velocity scaling and randomization for each note of the chord. Another feature is the start and end delay (this can also be randomized), which can be used to, for example, emulate strumming or to create more unpredictable results (works great with sounds with a long attack and/or decay, such as pads or strings).

Chordz comes with more than 40 scale/chord templates, and a chord library with more than 50 chord types. You can add your own custom templates, and new chord types by editing the relevant text file. And you can, of course, customize the chords directly in the GUI.

Chordz can also work as an educational tool. You can use Chordz to better understand the various musical scales and corresponding chords, as well as to learn those scales and chords by following the visual guides on the plugin's virtual keyboards display.
