Tubes Creamer 808 Core is an emulation of the famous Tube Screamer distortion. The modeling is based on a real circuit of the Ibanez TS-808. Mod switch: '808' for a default sound of the Ibanez TS-808 and Mod for getting a cleaner sound with slightly more bass when Drive is at the minimum. Stereo and Mono modes. Ibanez's TS-808 - AKA the Tube Screamer - is about to get a free software emulation in the form of the Mercuriall Audio Software's Tubes Creamer 808 Core. This models the circuit of the iconic overdrive and enables you to switch between the pedal's default sound and a 'Mod' version that's cleaner with slightly more bass when the Drive control. The plugin is called the Tubes Creamer 808 Core—making tubes creamier since 1808—and it’s available for free for PC and Mac in VST, AU, and AAX formats.

I’ve been trying out the Tubes Creamer 808 pedal and it’s quite a bit different than other tube screamer pedal plugins. It sounds nothing like the free TSE-808 pedal. Mercuriall’s TSC has a lot more grunge to it in 808 mode, even with the drive set to minimum.
It seems to color the tone a bit more than other tube screamer pedals, but it sounds quite good with the Mercuriall Tube Amp U530, Mercuriall’s free Engl E530 amp sim.
Unlike most tube screamer pedals, the TSC has a switch to toggle between the default sound of an Ibanez TS-808 pedal and a “MOD” setting for a cleaner sound with slightly more bass when the “Drive” knob is set at minimum.
The TSC plugin also offers stereo and mono modes, along with a low and high quality setting to switch between no oversampling and 4x oversampling.
I was a bit confused by the default 3.3 input gain setting on the TSC pedal but it’s explained in the user guide. You can use whatever sounds good to you but here’s a general guideline of what to set the input gain to:
1-2 for single-coil pickups
2-4 for low/mid-gain humbuckers
5-6 for high-gain humbuckers
The TSE 808 Tube Screamer pedal is one of the best overdrive emulation plugins available. It’s based off a legendary Ibanez Tube Screamer pedal that famous guitarists have been using since the late 1970s.
The TSE 808 plugin can give your amp sim some extra boost on leads and improve your guitar’s clarity and tone, especially on the low end.

One of the best things about it is that it can be downloaded for free from TSE Audio. It works with Windows and Mac OS X and is available in VST and AU formats.
The TSE 808 emulator comes with the TSE X50 amp simulator; that’s how I first came across it, but it’s also available as a separate download for free, and it works just as well with other amp sims like Recabinet and the free LePou amp sims.
The TSE 808 is commonly used in front of an amp sim to get better tone with heavy metal guitars. A lot of times it’s just used as an EQ with the drive turned down.
The 2.0 version of the plugin was released back in 2013. It offers a basic interface with knobs for Drive, Tone, and Volume. It has an input level dial that can go up to +6dB.

There’s a switch to choose either “Hi” or “Lo” quality (the high setting removes additional aliasing) and a switch to turn stereo on and off. The stereo setting can process two guitars at once, but they must be hard-panned left and right to avoid channel bleed.
